Genevieve Gorder

Genevieve Gorder is an interior designer and television broadcaster in the United States. Her most recent appearance on Bravo's Best Room Wins was as a host. She formerly hosted Netflix's Stay Here, HGTV's Genevieve's Renovation, "White House Christmas," and Dear Genevieve, as well as serving as a judge on HGTV's Design Star. She and her daughter, Bebelle, now live in Manhattan.

Early Life

Genevieve Gorder was born in 1974 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Genevieve is the oldest of three children and the only daughter. Genevieve attended Minneapolis South High School, where she enjoyed playing soccer and the violin. She then moved on to study International Affairs at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, from 1992-1994. While initially pursuing a degree in international affairs, Genevieve decided to change her career after taking a graphic design course. In 1994, Gorder accepted an internship from MTV in New York City. After the competition of her training, MTV offered her a permanent job, which she took. Genevieve relocated to New York City and graduated from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan with a B.F.A. in design.

Career

Genevieve began her career as a commentator for the MTV series; Sex in the '90s but eventually became one of the original designers for the TLC hit series, Trading Spaces.

During her tenure at Duffy & Partners in New York City, Gorder designed the bottle for Tanqueray No. 10 gin. She became famous on Trading Spaces and quickly became known for her soulful designs and her unusual working barefoot habit. Gorder parodied her lack of footwear in Swiffer Sweeper commercials that started running on television and in periodicals in 2003. She has always explained that her preference for working barefoot was not to ruin shoes and not for comfort reasons.

In addition to her role on Trading Spaces, she was a designer for the Family spinoff show. In 2005, she made over several small American towns for her performance, Town Haul.

Dear Genevieve

Dear Genevieve premiered on HGTV in January 2009. The show featured Gorder solving design problems, in-person for people who had written into the program.

Design Star

Genevieve is one of three judges on the design panel of HGTV Design. The show features Gorder advising and critiquing designers looking to achieve status on television.

HGTV White House Christmas

Genevieve is the host of HGTV's White House Christmas.

Genevieve's Renovation

Genevieve's newest series, a show about the renovation of her own life and home in Manhattan, premiered in July 2014. The series is also a personal look at what it is to be a designer and a reverse client as she designs for herself and her daughter.

Personal Life

Genevieve married fellow TV host Tylor Harcott in 2006. Harcott is well known for his work on the TLC hit series Junkyard Wars and Bidding Wars. Gorder met Harcott while on the set of the television series, A Dating Story in 2003. Genevieve and Tylor married three years later, in 2006; the marriage lasted seven years until the couple divorced in 2013. They have one daughter together.
