Ally Brooke is an American singer best known as a former member of the successful girl group Fifth Harmony. She gained prominence through her participation in the reality competition series, The X Factor (U.S.).
Allyson "Ally" Brooke Hernandez was born on July 7, 1993, in San Antonio, Texas, to Gerald and Patricia Hernandez. From a young age, Ally demonstrated a passion for performing. At just nine years old, she began singing at school events, charity functions, and community sports activities, reflecting her early commitment to pursuing a career in entertainment.
Ally's family faced challenges during her childhood, particularly due to her mother Patricia’s battle with scoliosis, a serious spinal condition. Despite the hardships, her parents remained supportive of Ally’s artistic ambitions, playing a vital role in nurturing her talent.
In 2012, Ally auditioned for the second season of the U.S. version of The X Factor, performing “On My Knees” by Jaci Velasquez. Her audition received positive feedback, particularly from judge Simon Cowell, who noted her star potential. Although Ally was eliminated during the boot camp phase, the judges brought her back to form a girl group alongside fellow contestants Lauren Jauregui, Dinah Jane, Normani Kordei, and Camila Cabello. The group, later named Fifth Harmony, went on to secure third place in the competition.
Following their success on The X Factor, Fifth Harmony signed a record deal and released their debut EP, Better Together, in 2013. They followed up with their first studio album, Reflection, in 2015. The album featured hit singles like “Worth It” and achieved commercial success, reaching No. 5 in the U.S., No. 8 in Canada, and No. 9 in Spain. The group became one of the most successful acts to emerge from the show, known for their empowering pop anthems.
After Fifth Harmony went on an indefinite hiatus in 2018, Ally Brooke pursued a solo career. She released several singles and collaborated with artists across Latin and pop genres. Her solo projects highlight her vocal talent and personal musical style, which often incorporates pop, Latin, and R&B elements.
In September 2019, Ally joined Season 28 of Dancing with the Stars, partnered with professional dancer Sasha Farber. While competing, the judges praised her strong performances, although one moment drew attention when judge Len Goodman critiqued a routine that heavily referenced Beyoncé’s choreography. Ally and Farber responded gracefully, expressing admiration for Beyoncé while defending their interpretative choices. She ultimately reached the finals, finishing in third place.
On April 1, 2014, a tweet from Fifth Harmony claiming Ally Brooke was engaged went viral—but it was later revealed to be an April Fools' joke orchestrated by the band.
In the past, Ally was briefly linked to Drew Chadwick, a fellow musician, in 2012. However, the relationship was short-lived. In January 2013, she began dating Troy Ogletree, a musician and YouTube personality. Throughout their three-year relationship, they publicly shared moments from their travels and appearances at music events via social media.
The couple separated in November 2015. A year later, in 2016, Ogletree tweeted about their breakup, implying lingering emotions, but both have since moved on with their respective careers.
