Angela McGlowan was born on March 3, 1970, in Oxford, Mississippi. Her father, James Thomas McGlowan, was a respected educator and minister. The McGlowan family was deeply concerned with issues of racism in America, as Angela and her four siblings come from a diverse racial heritage that includes Native American, African-American, Irish, and Scottish ancestry.
James McGlowan was committed to education and instilled this value in his children. He played a pivotal role in improving education for African-American students in Mississippi. Angela lost her father when she was only 12 years old, a personal tragedy that influenced her future pursuits.
Angela McGlowan graduated from high school and went on to attend the University of Mississippi. Motivated by her father’s belief in the power of education, she excelled academically and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration with an emphasis on Criminal Justice.
McGlowan began her career as a public affairs manager for Mirage Resorts, under the leadership of Steve Wynn. During her time there, she also worked as a lobbyist in collaboration with the American Gaming Association (AGA). Her efforts contributed to Mirage Resorts’ expansion, including properties such as Beau Rivage in Biloxi and Bellagio in Las Vegas. She played a key role in implementing advocacy and community outreach programs for these developments.
In 1994, McGlowan was crowned Miss District of Columbia, a title that enhanced her public profile. Around the same period, she served as Director of Outreach for the Better America Foundation, an organization founded by Senator Bob Dole. Her political involvement expanded further as she worked as a press aide for Representatives Roscoe Bartlett and John Ensign. In 1996, she acted as a publicist for Ensign’s reelection campaign, marking her growing presence in political communications.
From 1999 to 2005, McGlowan held the position of Director of Government Affairs and Diversity Development for News Corporation, the parent company of Fox Entertainment Group. She was responsible for developing and implementing diversity initiatives and served as a lobbyist advocating for the corporation’s legislative and regulatory objectives in Congress.
In 2007, she published her book, Bamboozled: How Americans Are Being Exploited by the Lies of the Liberal Agenda. The book resonated with a segment of the American public and reached the eighth position on the Washington Post Bestseller List. It cemented her reputation as a conservative political commentator.
In 2010, McGlowan announced her candidacy for Mississippi’s 1st congressional district, aiming to challenge incumbent Democrat Travis Childers. Though she lost in the Republican primary to State Senator Alan Nunnelee, she made history as the first Black woman to run for Congress in that district. Reflecting on her campaign, she stated, “We lost the battle, but won the war. A milestone was achieved for others to follow.”
Angela McGlowan currently serves as a business and political analyst for FOX News and the FOX Business Network, where she is a regular contributor on national political and social issues.
Since February 2006, she has been married to John Venners, CEO of the Venners Group. Venners brings over three decades of experience in managing private and public companies. Although Angela does not have children of her own, she is a stepmother to Venners' children. Her estimated net worth is approximately $3 million.
Angela McGlowan’s journey serves as an inspiration to many African-American women confronting racial and financial obstacles. Her multifaceted career in politics, media, and advocacy underscores her commitment to public service, empowerment, and representation.
