Aviva Drescher (née Teichner) was born in Manhattan in 1970 and raised in New York City. At the age of six, she suffered a traumatic accident while visiting a friend's dairy farm in upstate New York, resulting in the amputation of her left leg. Supported by her parents, George and Ingrid Teichner, Aviva demonstrated resilience and strength early in life.
Aviva pursued an extensive education. She attended the Ethical Culture Fieldston School in New York, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Vassar College, followed by a Master’s in French Literature from New York University, and later obtained a Juris Doctor from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. Although she chose not to practice law, Aviva devoted her time to raising her family. She approaches her physical disability with grace and composure, utilizing a custom prosthetic leg.
Aviva gained national recognition by joining Bravo’s reality TV show, The Real Housewives of New York City, in 2012. She was noted for bringing a distinctive presence to the ensemble, marked by her New York City roots—she was the first cast member born and raised in Manhattan. Her sharp intellect and composed demeanor distinguished her in the often dramatic reality television landscape.
Beyond her television persona, Aviva Drescher is actively involved in philanthropy and health advocacy. She serves as the national spokesperson for One Step Ahead, an organization dedicated to supporting amputees. She is also on the advisory boards for Cancer Schmancer/Trash Cancer and the Life4Life Foundation. A firm believer in civic responsibility, Aviva instills the value of giving back in her children.
In her early twenties, Aviva moved to Paris, where she experienced the vibrant social scene alongside high-profile names like Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, and Sylvester Stallone. During this time, she was in a brief relationship with a nightclub manager who was significantly older than her. The relationship ended following a reported incident of emotional conflict, leading Aviva to vow never to compromise her self-worth.
Aviva’s first marriage was to Harry Dubin, with whom she has a son named Harrison. Although their relationship ended in divorce in 2005, Harry Dubin's alleged connections to other reality TV figures like Sonja Morgan and Luann de Lesseps occasionally surfaced in tabloids. In 2010, Aviva reportedly had to seek legal assistance due to missed child support payments from Dubin.
Later, Aviva met Reid Drescher, a Wall Street investment banker, in a chance encounter at Bed Bath & Beyond. Both single parents at the time, they were introduced as their children played together in the store. Reid had a daughter, Veronica, from a previous relationship. The couple eventually married and had two more children together, Hudson and Sienna. Today, the Drescher family resides on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, where they represent a modern and blended family. Of German heritage, Aviva balances elegance and warmth, providing a nurturing environment for her husband and four children.
