Chris D'Elia is an American stand-up comedian, writer, and podcast host, born on March 29, 1980, in Montclair, New Jersey. He is the son of television producer and director Bill D'Elia and a mother of Polish and Italian descent. D'Elia spent his early years in Montclair before his family relocated to Los Angeles, California, when he was 12 years old.
While attending La Cañada High School in California, D'Elia developed a growing interest in acting and graduated in 1998. He briefly attended New York University, where he studied acting, but left after one year to pursue a career in entertainment more directly.
D’Elia began his entertainment career with a role in a straight-to-video film and dedicated much of his early twenties to writing scripts. By age 25, he had started gaining momentum in stand-up comedy, performing across the Los Angeles area.
His early television exposure came through appearances on Comedy Central’s “Live at Gotham,” “Comedy Central Presents,” and Showtime’s “Live Nude Comedy.” These platforms helped D’Elia establish himself as a rising figure in the comedy scene with a growing fanbase.
D'Elia reached a wider audience when he landed the role of Alex Miller on the NBC sitcom “Whitney,” which aired from 2011 to 2013. Co-starring alongside comedian Whitney Cummings, D’Elia played the main romantic lead and gained national recognition for his work on the show.
In 2006, Chris D’Elia married actress Emily Montague. The couple divorced in 2010. He currently resides in the Beachwood Canyon neighborhood of Los Angeles, California.
