Christopher James Hogan, known as Chris Hogan, is a former American professional football player best known for his time as a wide receiver with the New England Patriots. He was born on October 24, 1988, in Wyckoff, New Jersey, where he also spent his formative years. Hogan attended Ramapo High School, excelling in both football and lacrosse. He earned first-team All-New Jersey honors in lacrosse during his junior and senior years, and was also named first-team all-state in football as a senior.
Following high school, Hogan accepted a scholarship to Penn State University, where he played lacrosse. As a freshman in 2007, he started all 13 games and scored 11 goals. However, due to an ankle injury, he appeared in only three games during his sophomore season. After exhausting his eligibility in lacrosse, Hogan chose to use his remaining year of NCAA eligibility to play football. He enrolled at Monmouth University in 2010 and played for the Monmouth Hawks as a wide receiver and defensive back for one season.
Hogan went undrafted in the 2011 NFL Draft but signed with the San Francisco 49ers as a free agent on July 27, 2011. He was released before the regular season began. Shortly thereafter, he was signed to the New York Giants' practice squad but was released after just 11 days. Hogan continued to pursue a spot on an NFL roster and spent time on the Miami Dolphins' practice squad from 2011 to 2012.
Hogan's persistence paid off when he eventually found a more stable position with the Buffalo Bills, where he played from 2012 to 2015 and gained a reputation for his toughness and reliable hands. On March 10, 2016, Hogan signed a three-year, $12 million offer sheet with the New England Patriots, which the Bills declined to match. With the Patriots, Hogan became an integral part of the offense and contributed significantly to the team's success, including their victory in Super Bowl LI.
Known for his athleticism and versatility, Chris Hogan’s transition from a collegiate lacrosse player to a Super Bowl-winning NFL wide receiver is a testament to his adaptability and determination. His career path underscores the value of perseverance in professional sports.
