Erin Burnett met finance executive David Rubulotta on a blind date in 2003. At the time, Rubulotta was working as a trader at the investment bank Lehman Brothers. He later joined Citigroup, where he serves as Managing Director of High Yield Sales in New York.
The couple became engaged in September 2011 and were married on December 21, 2012. Their relationship has drawn public interest, often noted for its longevity and stability despite typical media speculation. In 2013, it was widely reported by People magazine that Burnett was expecting her first child, with a due date in November of that year.
Erin Burnett began her professional career as a financial analyst at Goldman Sachs, working in the firm’s mergers and acquisitions division. This role gave her substantial exposure to corporate finance and laid the foundation for her understanding of the business world.
While working at Goldman Sachs, Burnett was offered a position at CNN as a writer and booker for the program “Moneyline,” which was co-hosted by Willow Bay, Lou Dobbs, and Stuart Varney. Although this job marked her first foray into media, she later returned to the financial sector and served as Vice President at Citigroup’s investment banking division in New York.
Burnett eventually left Citigroup to pursue a full-time career in television. She joined Bloomberg Television as a Stocks Editor and News Anchor, before moving on to CNBC. At CNBC, she hosted the popular program “Street Signs” for six years and also served as co-anchor of “Squawk on the Street” alongside veteran broadcaster Mark Haines.
In 2011, Burnett transitioned back to CNN, launching her own primetime news program titled “Erin Burnett OutFront.” The show rapidly gained traction for its in-depth reporting and sharp financial analysis, helping to solidify her reputation as one of the leading female anchors in business journalism.
Beyond her anchoring responsibilities, Burnett has also been recognized for her investigative journalism and international reporting. Some of her most notable documentaries include “City of Money and Mystery” (2008), “India Rising: The New Empire,” “The Russian Gamble,” and “Dollars & Danger: Africa, The Final Investment Frontier” (2009). She also presented “On Assignment – Iraq” and “Big Money in the Middle East” (2010).
One of Burnett’s most impactful investigations focused on Transammonia, a chemical company found to be conducting business through a fully owned subsidiary in Iran. Her report shed light on these dealings, prompting significant attention and subsequent changes in business practices. This piece earned her an Emmy nomination for outstanding investigative journalism.
