Evgenia Armanovna Medvedeva was born on November 19, 1999, in Moscow, Russia. Her mother is a former Russian figure skater, and her father is an Armenian businessman. Medvedeva began skating at the age of three, setting the foundation for what would become an illustrious career in figure skating.
Medvedeva made her senior national debut at the 2012 Russian Championships. She quickly emerged as a dominant force in the sport, earning recognition for her technical precision and artistic expression. Medvedeva is a two-time World Champion, having won consecutive titles in 2016 and 2017. With her 2017 victory, she became the first female figure skater to win back-to-back World Championships since Michelle Kwan did so in 2000 and 2001.
In addition to her World Championship victories, Medvedeva is a two-time European Champion, a two-time Grand Prix Final Champion, and a two-time Russian National Champion. Her consistent performance at international events established her as one of the most prominent figures in women’s figure skating during the mid-2010s.
At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, Medvedeva earned silver medals in both the ladies' singles event and the team event. Despite narrowly missing gold, her Olympic performance was widely praised for its emotional depth and technical execution.
In May 2018, Medvedeva announced her decision to part ways with longtime coach Eteri Tutberidze. She subsequently moved to Toronto, Canada, to train under Brian Orser, a former competitive skater and renowned international coach. Though she resides and trains in Canada, Medvedeva continues to represent Russia in international competitions.
Medvedeva's influence extends beyond the ice rink. In 2017, she was featured on Business Insider’s list of the top 50 most dominant athletes. That same year, she appeared on the cover of Elle Girl Russia. Her marketability as a top athlete has led to sponsorship agreements with several prominent brands, including Gold Seal (a blade manufacturer), Edea (a skate boot company), Nike, and Pantene.
