Jesse Plemons is an American actor known for his versatile performances in both television and film. He is widely recognized for his roles in acclaimed series such as Friday Night Lights, Breaking Bad, and Fargo.
Jesse Lon Plemons was born on April 2, 1988, in Dallas, Texas, to Lisa Beth and Jim Bob Plemons. He was raised in the small town of Mart, near Waco, Texas, alongside his two older siblings. While there are claims of a distant familial connection to Stephen F. Austin, a historical figure known for colonizing Texas, this has not been definitively substantiated.
Plemons began earning money as early as age three, when he appeared in a Coca-Cola commercial. While growing up, he was actively involved in football during both middle school and high school. Despite early success in acting, Plemons remained committed to his education and later graduated through the Texas Tech University Independent School District, a program designed to accommodate students with non-traditional schedules.
Plemons began his professional acting career with a role in the film Finding North (1998), in which he played a small part as a hobo. He gained significant attention for his portrayal of Landry Clarke in the television series Friday Night Lights (2006–2011), appearing in 59 episodes. His performance earned him widespread praise and propelled his career forward.
In 2006, he also made a guest appearance on Grey's Anatomy. His resemblance to actor Matt Damon enabled him to land the role of young Damon’s character in the film All the Pretty Horses (2000).
Plemons has since taken on a series of mature and diverse film roles. He appeared in the crime drama Black Mass (2015) alongside Johnny Depp, further establishing his standing in Hollywood. In 2012, he played a supporting role in the action film Battleship.
In 2019, Plemons was featured in the trailer for Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman, one of Netflix’s most high-profile releases with a substantial production budget. Although his role in the film was not a leading one, his involvement in such a prestigious project highlights his continued rise in the industry.
In 2015, Plemons co-starred with Kirsten Dunst in the second season of the FX anthology series Fargo, portraying Ed Blumquist, a small-town butcher married to Peggy Blumquist, played by Dunst. Their on-screen chemistry soon evolved into a real-life romance.
By 2016, the couple had begun dating, and engagement rumors began to circulate after Dunst was seen wearing a ring. In 2018, they welcomed their first son, Ennis, and eventually got married in 2022. Plemons and Dunst have continued to support each other’s careers, occasionally appearing at events and award ceremonies together.
