Barden made her television debut in 1999 with a small role in the children's series My Parents Are Aliens. She went on to make guest appearances in other British television series such as No Angels and The Chase. These early roles laid the foundation for her career in film and television.
In 2007, Barden secured the role of Kayleigh Morton in the long-running ITV soap opera Coronation Street. She portrayed the character until 2008, with her final episode airing on September 29 of that year. Her departure coincided with the exit of the entire Morton family from the show.

Though some of these films had limited theatrical release, they contributed to her growing reputation as a versatile actress.
Jessica Barden’s breakthrough came in 2017 with her lead role as Alyssa in the Channel 4 dark comedy-drama The End of the F***ing World. The series, later picked up globally by Netflix, received widespread critical acclaim for its writing and performances.
