Krystal Jung, professionally known as Krystal, is an American singer and actress primarily active in South Korea. She was born Chrystal Soo Jung on October 24, 1994, in San Francisco, California. Krystal was introduced to the Korean entertainment industry at a young age, making her first appearance in television commercials in 2002.
In 2006, Krystal joined S.M. Entertainment, one of South Korea's leading entertainment agencies. The company enrolled her in formal dance training, which she pursued for three years before debuting as a member of the K-pop girl group f(x) in 2009. The group quickly rose to prominence in the K-pop scene, known for their experimental music style and innovative performances.
f(x) released their debut studio album, Pinocchio, in 2011, which included hit singles that topped the Gaon Digital Chart, South Korea’s primary chart for digital music. By 2012, the group had achieved three number-one singles. Recognized for their global appeal, f(x) became one of the first K-pop acts to perform at the annual South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival in Austin, Texas, marking a significant milestone for the group's international exposure.
In June 2014, Krystal expanded her presence in the entertainment industry through the reality TV series Jessica & Krystal, which she co-starred in with her sister Jessica Jung, a fellow entertainer and former member of Girls’ Generation. The show offered viewers a behind-the-scenes look at their personal and professional lives.
Krystal continued to build her acting portfolio in subsequent years. In 2018, she starred in the television series Player, aired on Orion Cinema Network (OCN), where she portrayed Cha Ah-ryung, a highly skilled driver, as part of a crime-fighting team. She also filmed the Chinese romantic film Unexpected Love with Lay Zhang in 2016, though its release has been repeatedly delayed.
Her later acting credits include Police University (2021), Crazy Love (2022) and Kim Jee-woon's film Cobweb (2023), which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. After her contract with S.M. Entertainment expired in 2020, she signed with H& Entertainment, and in November 2025 she released her first solo single, Solitary.
Krystal was previously in a relationship with Kai, a member of the popular K-pop group EXO. The relationship attracted significant media attention before the couple officially parted ways. She continues to focus on her career in music and acting, gaining acclaim for her on-screen performances and stage presence.
