LisaRaye McCoy, professionally known as LisaRaye, was born on September 23, 1966, in Chicago, Illinois. She is the daughter of David Ray McCoy, a successful Chicago businessman, and Katie McCoy, a former professional model. Her mother passed away from cancer in 2012. LisaRaye is of African American and Native American descent. She is also the older half-sister of prominent hip hop artist Da Brat.
