Nicholas Jerry "Nick" Jonas was born on September 16, 1992, in Dallas, Texas, U.S.A. He was raised in Wyckoff, New Jersey, by his mother Denise, a language teacher, and his father Paul Kevin Jonas Sr., a songwriter and musician. Nick is of Italian, German, English, Irish, Scottish, Cherokee, and French-Canadian descent.
He is the third of four brothers: older siblings Kevin and Joe, and younger brother Frankie. Nick was primarily home-schooled by his mother during his childhood.
Nick Jonas began his career in entertainment at the age of six when he was discovered in a hair salon and referred to a professional show business manager. By the age of seven, he was performing on Broadway. He appeared in productions such as Annie Get Your Gun, A Christmas Carol, Beauty and the Beast, and Les Misérables. After the closing of Les Misérables, Nick continued his stage career by performing as Kurt in The Sound of Music at the Paper Mill Playhouse.
After performing the song "Please Be Mine," written and sung by Nick and his brothers, the trio caught the attention of executives at Daylight/Columbia Records. Initially considering the name "Sons of Jonas," they ultimately chose "Jonas Brothers" as their band name. Their debut studio album, It's About Time, was released on August 8, 2006. However, the album saw a limited release of just over 50,000 copies and minimal promotional support from the label.
Due to the lack of attention from Columbia Records, the band was dropped in early 2007. Shortly afterward, the Jonas Brothers signed with Hollywood Records in February 2007, marking a new beginning for their careers.
On March 18, 2013, it was announced that Nick Jonas would star in his first feature film leading role in the thriller Careful What You Wish For, scheduled for release in 2014. In addition to acting, Jonas took on the role of Musical and Creative Director for Demi Lovato's tour, as confirmed on February 4, 2014.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Jonas explained his multifaceted responsibilities on the tour: "I'm overseeing video content, wardrobe, lighting, and staging. Musically, I'm helping shape the arrangements for the songs. I'm building what Demi envisioned—a show that flows seamlessly. Demi and I share a manager, and because we’ve known each other for over eight years, I understand how to best communicate with her and her team."
Since being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 13, Nick Jonas has been a committed advocate for diabetes awareness. On August 6, 2008, he partnered with Bayer Diabetes Care as a spokesperson to encourage young people to effectively manage their condition. He has also testified before the U.S. Senate to advocate for increased funding for diabetes research.
Singer and actress Miley Cyrus has stated that she dated Nick Jonas from June 2006 to December 2007, describing the relationship as being young and in love. The Jonas Brothers song "Wedding Bells" was rumored to have been inspired by this relationship. In 2009, Nick briefly dated fellow Disney star Selena Gomez after she appeared in the music video for the Jonas Brothers' single "Burnin' Up."
In May 2011, Jonas was romantically linked to Australian singer and actress Delta Goodrem. The relationship was relatively short-lived but received media attention due to their high-profile careers.
