Seimone Delicia Augustus was born on April 30, 1984, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She is the daughter of Kim Augustus and Seymore Augustus. Seimone attended Capitol High School, where she also played basketball and quickly gained recognition for her talent. She later enrolled at Louisiana State University (LSU), where she played collegiate basketball for the LSU Lady Tigers.
While still in high school, Augustus was honored as a WBCA All-American and appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated, which highlighted her early promise in women's basketball. The Women's Basketball Coaches Association selected her to participate in its prestigious All-America Game, where she continued to showcase her impressive skills.
During her college years at LSU, Augustus solidified her reputation as one of the best players in the country. She received numerous accolades, including the Naismith College Player of the Year Award, the John R. Wooden Award, and the Wade Trophy in both 2005 and 2006. In her senior year, she also earned the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, given to the top senior women's basketball player in the nation.

In 2010, Augustus underwent surgery to remove uterine fibroids, a condition she shares genetically with her mother and grandmother. The fibroids had grown to a size comparable to that of a newborn’s head. The surgery, performed at Fairview Southdale Hospital, required the removal of her uterus. However, because her ovaries were untouched and remained healthy, she retained the option of having biological children through surrogacy.
