Sutan Amrull, born on June 14, 1974, in Baldwin Park, California, is an American makeup artist and drag performer. He spent part of his childhood in Indonesia, living there from the ages of three to nine before returning to the United States. Amrull developed an early interest in the arts and later studied art in college. However, he left after two years to pursue a professional career in makeup artistry and drag performance.
Amrull entered the drag scene at the age of sixteen through the vibrant nightclubs of Los Angeles. Performing under the stage name Raja Gemini, or simply Raja, he quickly made a name for himself in the drag and entertainment communities. Known for his distinctive style, he frequently combines high fashion with avant-garde aesthetics.
In addition to his success as a drag artist, Sutan Amrull built a highly respected career as a professional makeup artist. He gained widespread recognition for his work on the reality television show America’s Next Top Model, serving as the show’s makeup artist for several cycles. Over the years, Amrull has worked with a roster of high-profile clients, including Pamela Anderson, Paulina Porizkova, Iman, Tyra Banks, RuPaul, and Adam Lambert. His ability to blend creative flair with technical precision has made him a sought-after figure in the fashion and entertainment industries.
Standing at six feet three inches, Raja Gemini brought a commanding presence to Season 3 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, a popular American reality competition seeking to crown "America's next drag superstar." Raja's blend of runway glamour, sharp wit, and artistic vision made him a standout contestant. He ultimately won the season after a finale that featured a memorable lip-sync battle against Manila Luzon. This victory solidified his status as a leading figure in the drag world.
In May 2011, following his success on television, Raja Gemini released his debut single, "Diamond Crowned Queen." The song achieved moderate chart success, peaking at number 35 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Songs chart. Known for his charismatic personality, Amrull often remarks humorously that he holds a “master’s degree in fierce,” a phrase that has since become associated with his confident and stylish persona.
