Tamar Braxton, born Tamar Estine Braxton-Herbert on March 17, 1977, in Severn, Maryland, is an American singer, television personality, and talk show host. She is the youngest of six children born to Michael and Evelyn Braxton. Growing up in a musically inclined household, Tamar was surrounded by talent—her mother was an opera singer and her sister Toni Braxton went on to become an internationally renowned artist.
Inspired by her family's musical background, Tamar began singing at a young age. Alongside her sisters, she performed regularly in their local church choir. In 1989, the five Braxton sisters—Toni, Traci, Towanda, Trina, and Tamar—signed their first record deal with Arista Records as "The Braxtons." Their debut single, “Good Life,” was released in 1990 and peaked at number 79 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Although The Braxtons formed as a group in the early 1990s, they released only one studio album, “So Many Ways,” in 1996 under Atlantic Records. The group was moderately successful, particularly in the R&B genre, but eventually disbanded, allowing Tamar to focus on her solo career.
Tamar launched her solo career in 2000 with her debut album, which featured the single “If You Don’t Wanna Love Me.” Though the project received limited commercial success, it established her as a solo performer and opened the door for future musical endeavors. Over the years, she gained recognition for her vocal talent and charismatic stage presence, performing live and cultivating a dedicated fanbase.
In 2011, Tamar returned to the public eye alongside her sisters on the WE tv reality series Braxton Family Values. The show was a hit for the network and became one of its highest-rated programs, showcasing the dynamics of the Braxton family and Tamar’s vibrant personality.
Branching out further, Tamar became a co-host of the daytime talk show The Real in 2013, which aired on FOX. Her time on the show expanded her reach beyond music and introduced her to a broader television audience. That same year, she starred in her own reality series, Tamar & Vince, on WE tv. The series followed her professional and personal life with her then-husband, music executive Vincent Herbert.
Tamar Braxton has released multiple solo albums, including the critically acclaimed Love and War (2013), which featured hit singles like “The One,” “All the Way Home,” and the title track “Love and War.” The album marked a significant turning point in her musical career, earning her three Grammy nominations.
In 2015, she released her third studio album, Calling All Lovers, which continued to showcase her vocal range and emotional depth. It marked another milestone in her career and reinforced her standing in the R&B genre.
Tamar Braxton married music producer Vincent Herbert in 2008. The couple welcomed a son together before eventually separating in 2017. Prior to her marriage, she was briefly involved with music producer Darrell Allamby and football player Chuck Smith.
Known for her confident public persona and sense of style, Tamar has often been recognized for her fashion and beauty. Standing at 5 feet 7 inches, she maintains an active presence on social media platforms like Instagram, where she shares glimpses of her personal life and professional work with fans.
