Gardner began her broadcasting career in 1992 at Radio 2NX in Newcastle and later worked at 2Day FM and Triple M in Sydney. Early in her career, she was recognized as the best new journalist in the Metropolitan Broadcast Awards. These formative years gave her critical experience in delivering live news and managing dynamic newsroom environments.
In 1997, Gardner moved into television, joining Network Ten where she gained considerable experience as a reporter and presenter. Her television career ascended rapidly, and in 2002 she joined the Nine Network—a pivotal move that brought her national recognition. At Nine, she held various roles, including presenting Nine News Sydney, the weekend edition of Nine News, and Nine News First at Five.
Gardner became a regular face on the news program Today, serving as the weekday news presenter. She was also a frequent fill-in host across several of Nine’s news programs, earning widespread respect for both her professionalism and journalistic integrity. Known for her poised on-air presence and strong communication skills, Gardner is considered one of Australia's most respected television journalists.
