Justin Hakuta is an American businessman and entrepreneur, born on October 18, 1981, in Los Angeles, California. He is the son of Ken Hakuta, a well-known inventor and television personality, and Marilou Cantiller. Of mixed Filipino and Japanese heritage, Hakuta grew up alongside his two siblings, Aki and Kenzo.
He attended Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C., graduating in 2000. In 2002, he participated in an academic exchange at Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico before pursuing higher education at Carnegie Mellon University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Decision Science. He later obtained an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Hakuta has built a diversified career with a focus on health and wellness entrepreneurship. Early in his career, he founded YogaStart, a company aimed at connecting people with affordable yoga and wellness services. He also gained experience working with mission-driven companies such as Honest Tea, Patagonia, and Seventh Generation, known for their commitment to sustainability and ethical business practices.
Currently, Justin Hakuta serves as Vice President of Product at GoodRx, a platform that helps consumers find affordable prescription medications. Hakuta gained public attention through his marriage to comedian Ali Wong, renowned for her Netflix stand-up specials such as Baby Cobra and Hard Knock Wife. The couple married on November 27, 2014. They welcomed their first daughter, Mari, in November 2015.
