Nick Nolte, born Nicholas King Nolte in 1941, is an American actor known for his extensive film career. He was raised in Omaha, Nebraska. His mother worked in a department store, while his father was a traveling salesman specializing in irrigation pumps.
During his school years, Nolte was active in sports, playing as a kicker in football, a catcher in baseball, and both a defensive and tight end in basketball. Despite his athletic involvement, Nolte struggled academically and was eventually expelled from Arizona State University due to poor grades.
Nolte began his professional career as a model in the 1960s and 1970s. He notably appeared on packaging for "Summer Blonde," a popular hair-lightening product at the time. His entry into acting came with his breakout role in the 1976 television miniseries Rich Man, Poor Man, based on the bestselling novel by Irwin Shaw.
