Tichina Rolanda Arnold-Hines, professionally known as Tichina Arnold, was born in 1969 in Queens, New York. She grew up in a middle-class African American family. Her mother worked in a sanitation department, while her father served as a police officer. She attended the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, where she focused on developing her performance skills.
Arnold made her acting debut in 1983 with the film The Brass Ring. She gained further recognition for her roles as Crystal in Little Shop of Horrors and as Pesty in the television adaptation of The House of Dies Drear. Her television work includes appearances in soap operas like Ryan's Hope and All My Children.
She is best known for her portrayal of Pamela James on the Fox sitcom Martin and as Rochelle, the strict but loving mother, on the UPN/CW comedy series Everybody Hates Chris. Arnold also starred in the TV Land original sitcom Happily Divorced, further solidifying her status in television comedy.
In 1998, Arnold launched a headwear company called China Moon Rags, which specialized in bandanas embellished with Swarovski crystals. Her designs were worn by several celebrities and close friends, including LisaRaye McCoy, Christina Aguilera, Regina King, Vivica A. Fox, Janet Jackson, and Tisha Campbell. She eventually paused the venture following the birth of her daughter.
Tichina Arnold has one daughter, Alijah Kai, with music producer Carvin Haggins. In August 2012, she married DaRico Hines, a basketball coach who has served as an assistant coach for the St. John's Red Storm men's basketball team and formerly worked for the Golden State Warriors. The wedding took place in Honolulu, Hawaii.
