Anthea Turner

Anthea Turner is a renowned English television presenter, best known for her work on the long-running children's show Blue Peter from 1992 to 1994. She also co-hosted GMTV from 1994 to 1996, further establishing her presence as a prominent figure in British morning television.

Early Life and Education

Anthea Turner was born in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. She received her education at St Dominic's High School for Girls, a Roman Catholic direct grant grammar school located in Brewood, South Staffordshire.

She was one of three daughters born to Brian and Jean Turner. Tragically, her sister Ruth passed away at the age of 15. Her surviving sister, Wendy Turner Webster, is also a television presenter.

Entry into Broadcasting

Turner began her career in media at BBC Radio Stoke, initially working as a runner. She later collaborated with breakfast show host Bruno Brookes, joining his team as part of a morning program. Their professional relationship eventually turned personal, and during this period, they were represented by Peter Powell’s management company for their media ventures.

Transition to Television

Turner transitioned from radio to television via Sky Channel and Music Box, where she presented live music-related programming between 1986 and 1989. Her rise in television continued with her national debut on the BBC’s But First This, which served as a stepping stone to more high-profile roles in children’s and morning television.
