Daryn Kagan is an American broadcast journalist best known for her tenure at CNN. From 1994 to 2006, she served as a main anchor based at CNN’s world headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. During this time, she anchored "CNN Live Today," airing weekdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Eastern Time for more than eight years. Kagan was also the host of CNN's entertainment news program "People in the News," produced in partnership with People magazine. Earlier in her CNN career, she worked as both a sports reporter and news anchor.
After leaving CNN in 2006, Kagan launched her own website, DarynKagan.com, which focuses on inspirational news stories.
Daryn Kagan was born in 1963 and grew up in Beverly Hills, California. She graduated from Beverly Hills High School in 1981, where she was involved in cross-country running. She then attended Stanford University, graduating with a degree in communications. Determined to enter the broadcasting field, Kagan sent demo tapes to various television stations after graduation.
Kagan’s first on-air job was at KEYT-TV, a local station in Santa Barbara, California. She later moved to KTVK in Phoenix, Arizona, where she worked as a general assignment reporter. Her interest in sports reporting led her to take on additional responsibilities as weekend sports anchor, while continuing to report news throughout the week.
When her contract with KTVK was not renewed, Kagan was hired by CNN/SI, CNN's now-defunct sports network, thanks to Jim Walton, a CNN executive. She quickly became a correspondent and sports anchor, covering prominent events such as international figure skating championships, NBA playoffs, and the Super Bowl.
Daryn Kagan is of Jewish heritage. Her great-grandfather Eiser Cohen immigrated from Russia to the United States through Ellis Island and settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her grandfather, Jack Kagan, later moved the family to Los Angeles. Kagan has spoken publicly on CNN about her mother’s battle with breast cancer, an experience that shaped her personal narrative.
Kagan has two siblings: a younger sister, Kallan, an executive with Arc Productions, and an older brother named Mark. An athlete during her high school years, Kagan remains an avid runner and has shared her insights on running through various media platforms, including ESPN radio.
In 2004, Kagan was briefly romantically linked to conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh, but the relationship ended within the same year. Passionate about animal rescue, Kagan has adopted multiple pets, including a three-legged cat named Tripod and a dog named Darla Louise, both from animal shelters.
As of available public records, Kagan has not been married. Her inspirational quotes and media appearances continue to be accessible online, reflecting her enduring presence in journalism and motivational storytelling.
