Ryan Moore was born in 1982 in Tacoma, Washington, and grew up in the nearby city of Puyallup. He graduated from Puyallup High School in 2001, where he lettered in golf all four years. Although he initially attended Cascade Christian School, which did not have a golf team, he later transferred to Puyallup High School, a Class 4A school with an established golf program. Moore finished as the runner-up at the 2000 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship and won the 2001 Washington State High School Individual Championship, where he competed against Andres Gonzales, a future teammate at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).
Moore accepted a golf scholarship from UNLV, where he played for the Rebels for four seasons and earned a degree in communications and public relations in 2005. His amateur golf career peaked in 2004, prior to his senior season in college. That year, he captured several major titles, including the U.S. Amateur, the U.S. Amateur Public Links, the Western Amateur, and the NCAA Individual Championship—an unprecedented feat in a single year of amateur golf. Moore also received the Ben Hogan Award in 2005, presented annually to the top college golfer in the United States.
Also in 2005, Moore was awarded the Haskins Award, recognizing him as the most outstanding collegiate golfer in the nation. He made a notable appearance at the 2005 Masters Tournament, where he finished 13th overall and earned the distinction of low amateur, securing an invitation to the 2006 Masters. His final tournament as an amateur was the 2005 U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2, where he made the cut and finished tied for 57th.
After turning professional in 2005, Moore made his debut at the Westchester Classic, receiving a sponsor's exemption and finishing tied for 51st. Although he relinquished his automatic exemptions by turning professional, he gained a temporary membership on the PGA Tour. Notably, he tied for second place at the 2005 Canadian Open in Vancouver, cementing his potential as a rising talent on the tour.
Moore went on to win five PGA Tour events throughout his career. Contrary to earlier reports, he did not win four titles in the opening weeks of the 2014–2015 season. However, he did secure a win at the CIMB Classic in both 2013 and 2014, contributing to his consistent performance during that period. At the height of his career, Moore ranked within the top 30 in the Official World Golf Ranking.
Ryan Moore has been married to Nichole Olson since 2011. Off the course, he is relatively private but can occasionally be found engaging with fans via social media. His official Twitter handle is @ryanmoorepga.
