Luke Wilson is an American actor best known for his performances in popular films such as Idiocracy, Old School, Bottle Rocket, and The Royal Tenenbaums.
Luke Cunningham Wilson was born on September 21, 1971, in Dallas, Texas. He is the youngest of three sons born to Laura Cunningham Wilson, a professional photographer, and Robert Andrew Wilson, an advertising executive at the public television station KERA. His older brothers, Andrew and Owen Wilson, are also prominent figures in the entertainment industry. All three siblings attended St. Mark’s School of Texas, an all-boys preparatory school, where Luke served as class president during his first year.
Wilson began his acting career in the short film version of Bottle Rocket (1994), written by Wes Anderson and his brother Owen Wilson. The success of the short led to a feature-length version released in 1996, which became his first major film role and helped launch his acting career. He then moved to Hollywood with his brothers to pursue further opportunities. In 1997, Wilson starred opposite Calista Flockhart in Telling Lies in America. That same year, he appeared in the horror-comedy sequel Scream 2 and the romantic comedy Best Men alongside Drew Barrymore.
Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, Wilson secured several prominent roles, including performances in Home Fries, Dog Park, and Rushmore (1998). In 1999, he played Detective Carlson in the action-comedy Blue Streak. Wilson remained active in the industry, averaging multiple film roles per year across a wide range of genres.
Wilson has garnered several honors during his career. In 1996, he received the Lone Star Special Award for Debut of the Year for his performance in Bottle Rocket. He was later inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame, reflecting his contributions to cinema and ties to the state. In 2005, he earned the Festival Award at the Vail Film Festival for his role in The Wendell Baker Story, a film he also co-wrote and co-directed.
In July 2019, the trailer for Zombieland: Double Tap was released, featuring Wilson as a new addition to the ensemble cast in the sequel to the hit zombie comedy.
Luke Wilson is not currently married and does not have children. However, he has been linked to several high-profile relationships over the years. His romance with actress Drew Barrymore attracted significant media attention in the early 2000s. He has also reportedly dated other actresses and models, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Joy Bryant, Alison Eastwood, Jennifer Walcott, and Audra Lynn.
