Lightweight Success and Championship Title Shot

Following his move to the lightweight division, Poirier experienced a resurgence. By 2018, he had amassed 28 professional bouts with 22 victories and earned his third Fight of the Night bonus. This success prompted a new contract with the UFC.

In April 2019, Poirier captured the UFC Interim Lightweight Championship by defeating Max Holloway in a rematch at UFC 236—this time via unanimous decision. This victory solidified Poirier’s elite status and earned him a unification bout against reigning champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. The title fight took place at UFC 242 in September 2019, where Poirier was defeated in the third round via rear-naked choke. Despite the loss, his performance was widely praised.

Personal Life and Family

Dustin Poirier is married to Jolie Poirier, and the couple shares a strong partnership both personally and professionally. Jolie became pregnant in late 2015, and the couple welcomed their daughter, Parker Noelle Poirier, on August 20, 2016. For training purposes, the family relocated to South Florida, where Poirier trains with American Top Team, one of the premier MMA gyms in the world.

Beyond the octagon, Poirier is actively involved in charitable work through The Good Fight Foundation, supporting underserved communities in his native Louisiana and beyond.
