Eri Fukatsu made her film debut in 1988 with the movie Summer Vacation 1999, an adaptation of the manga Tōma no Shinzō. She became widely recognized for her role as Sumire Onda in the popular film and television franchise Bayside Shakedown. In addition to acting, Fukatsu contributed voice narration for Japanese television programs, notably those focusing on UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Fukatsu has also been recognized for supporting roles, earning Best Supporting Actress accolades at the 22nd Japan Academy Prize (1999), the 28th Hochi Film Award (2003), and the 27th Japan Academy Prize (2004).
