In 2019, Isabella Rose Giannulli became indirectly involved in the widely publicized college admissions bribery scandal through her parents, Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli. The couple was among 50 individuals charged for participating in a fraudulent scheme to secure admission for their daughters to USC by falsely portraying them as potential recruits for the university's rowing team.

The Giannullis allegedly paid $500,000 to William "Rick" Singer’s Key Worldwide Foundation to facilitate these admissions, despite neither daughter having rowing experience. The scheme was part of a larger investigation known as "Operation Varsity Blues."

Following the legal proceedings, Lori Loughlin pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud and was sentenced to two months in prison. Mossimo Giannulli pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud and one count of honest services wire and mail fraud, receiving a five-month prison sentence. Lori began serving her sentence at FCI Dublin in Northern California on October 30, 2020, while Mossimo reported to prison on November 19, 2020.

The fallout impacted Olivia Jade, who lost several brand partnerships, including one with Sephora. Both Isabella and Olivia’s educational futures at USC were scrutinized in the aftermath, though no public expulsion was confirmed.
