Early Life and Education

Lauren German was born on November 29, 1978, in Huntington Beach, California. She developed an interest in acting at a young age and pursued formal education in the arts. German attended the University of Southern California (USC), where she studied anthropology before shifting her focus to acting. She also trained at the prominent Actor's Studio and Orange County High School of the Arts.

Stage and Film Career Beginnings

Lauren German began her acting career on stage with roles in classic productions such as Peter Pan and Oliver!. She made her film debut in 2000 with a supporting role in the romantic comedy Down to You, portraying a lovestruck college student. She then appeared as Belinda, the ex-girlfriend of the male lead played by Shane West, in the 2002 box office hit A Walk to Remember, which brought her wider recognition.

Notable Film Roles

Following her early successes, German starred in several films, including Dead Above Ground, The Lone Ranger (2003), and the teen drama A Midsummer Night’s Rave. She continued to take on diverse roles in independent and genre films such as Standing Still, What We Do Is Secret—a biopic of punk rocker Darby Crash—and Piggy Banks.

German took on the leading role in the 2011 post-apocalyptic thriller The Divide, where she played Eva. She also appeared in the Quentin Tarantino-produced horror film Hostel: Part II, performing many of her own stunts. Additional credits include roles in Love and Mary, Dark Country, and Born Killers.

Television Career and Breakthrough in “Lucifer”

Lauren German has had a successful television career, with appearances in a variety of TV series. She gained acclaim for portraying paramedic Leslie Shay in NBC's hit series Chicago Fire, which she joined in 2012. Prior to that, she held roles in shows such as Hawaii Five-0, playing Agent Lori Weston; Love & Secrets; Happy Town; and Sex, Love & Secrets.

In 2016, German began her most notable television role as Detective Chloe Decker in the FOX series Lucifer, adapted from the DC Comics character. Her portrayal of the LAPD detective earned widespread recognition and became a defining role in her career.
