She attended Davidson College before receiving her degree from Bryn Mawr College in 2001. Even though her major was in Spanish Literature instead of political science, she ended up with a career in politics. Her interest in Spanish Literature gives the public a glimpse into her character. A common stereotype of Republicans are they they are racist and close minded. The fact that Margaret was so interested in another culture shows her complex of a person she is. She is not your regular Republicans, she has many more dimensions to her that makes her such a good political commentator. She is able to have a balanced point of view because of her life experiences and beliefs.

Political Career
Margaret Hoover worked in the White House under the George W. Bush administration where she was the associate director for intergovernmental Affairs. She did contributed work for the re-election of President Bush in the 2004 presidential campaign in 2004. She was the Deputy Finance Director for Rudy Giuliani when he attempted to become president. Rudy gave a strong attempt to win but in the end he wasn’t able to garner enough support. He thought he was popular enough from his time as a New York mayor but the rest of the country seem to turn a blind eye to him when he ran for president. Unfortunately, Margaret’s fundraising work for Rudy wasn’t enough for him to gain any momentum in the presidential race. Margaret was also the staffer for Capitol Hill under Congressman of Mario Diaz-Balart. She also worked as the advisor of Deputy Secretary for the department of Homeland Security. Since June 2018, she has hosted the PBS revival of the public affairs interview program Firing Line.
Margaret Hoover got married to a fellow CNN contributor named John Avlon. He is a former editor-in-chief of The Daily Beast and former CNN anchor, and in 2024 he was the Democratic nominee for New York’s 1st congressional district, losing to Republican Nick LaLota. They have two children: a son, Jack, born in 2013, and a daughter, Toula Lou, born in 2015. They had their wedding ceremony at the Stanford Memorial Church in the city of Palo Alto. There hasn’t been any rumors about the couple getting a divorce. The couple has been strong and the birth of their children only made their relationship stronger. Being a successful person in the political world, it is believed that Margaret may have a large net worth but none of her finances are available on public record. Margaret is the president of the lobby group called the American Unity PAC.
