Mark Barron was born in Mobile, Alabama, where he attended St. Paul's Episcopal School. A standout student-athlete, he played for the St. Paul's Saints high school football team under head coach Eddie Guth.
Barron displayed exceptional versatility on the field, contributing in multiple positions, including running back, wide receiver, and linebacker, between 2004 and 2007. As a junior, he tallied 785 rushing yards on 78 carries and recorded 368 receiving yards from 23 receptions, scoring a total of 12 touchdowns.

Mark Barron was selected in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In 2014, he was traded to the St. Louis Rams, who would later become the Los Angeles Rams. Eventually transitioning from safety to inside linebacker, Barron became a significant component of the Rams' defense.
During the 2017 NFL season, Barron and the Rams finished first in the NFC West with an 11–5 record, earning a spot in the playoffs. Although the Rams were eliminated in the Wild Card Round that year, the team made substantial progress the following season. In 2018, the Rams advanced to Super Bowl LIII, where they were ultimately defeated by the New England Patriots.
