Seeking to expand her career, Monica moved to Los Angeles to study acting while continuing to refine her skills as a television anchor. Her film debut came in 2004 with the comedy Buds for Life. She later starred in The Death of Mr. Lazarescu, her first Romanian feature film, which received critical acclaim and won numerous awards, including the Un Certain Regard award at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival and the Silver Hugo at the Chicago International Film Festival. The film was also nominated for a 2006 Independent Spirit Award.
Since 2004, Monica has acted in over 13 films, building a diverse and respected body of work in the Romanian and international film industries.
Monica Dean has also appeared in international television productions. Notably, she had a recurring role on the critically acclaimed TV series Lost, where she played Gabriela Busoni, a wealthy Italian woman. Her performance helped introduce her to a broader global audience.
In 2006, Monica was listed at number 74 in Capital magazine’s annual ranking of the 100 Most Successful Women in Romania, a testament to her influence in entertainment and media. Her anchoring role in the TV series Extravacanza and her continued presence on Romanian television bolstered her status as a leading figure in the industry.
