Nina Jane Easton was born on October 27, 1958, and raised in California. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California, Berkeley, an honor society recognizing academic excellence in the liberal arts and sciences.
Nina Easton began her journalism career in 1981 as a writer for consumer advocate Ralph Nader. Together, they co-authored a book examining the Ronald Reagan administration. In 1984, she joined Legal Times in Washington, D.C. as a staff reporter before going on to write for BusinessWeek and The American Banker. From 1988 to 1998, Easton served as a staff writer for the Los Angeles Times, where she earned national recognition for her magazine writing, winning a prestigious award in 1994.
In 2003, Easton joined The Boston Globe's Washington Bureau as deputy bureau chief. Her reporting excellence led her to Fortune Magazine in 2006, where she serves as a senior editor and columnist, focusing on economic and political news. Russell Schriefer was a senior advisor to Mitt Romney during the 2012 U.S. presidential campaign. He graduated from Manhattan College and has served as media adviser to former President George W. Bush, as well as a program director at the Republican National Convention. He co-founded the Stevens & Schriefer Group, a political consulting firm that has advised major Republican candidates over several election cycles.
Schriefer’s longtime business partner, Stuart Stevens, began his political consulting career in Mississippi. A seasoned strategist, Stevens played key roles in the campaigns of Thad Cochran and other prominent Republicans. He authored The Big Enchilada, chronicling his experiences during the George W. Bush campaign. Both Stevens and Schriefer worked on John McCain’s campaign in 2008 before fully committing to Romney’s 2012 run.
