Sasha Alexander, born Susan S. Drobnjakovic Ponti in 1973, is of Serbian-American descent. She was raised in California by a Serbian family and discovered her passion for acting at a young age. Her first acting experience occurred in seventh grade during a school production. In addition to acting, she enjoyed ice skating but had to stop due to an injury.
Alexander continued performing throughout high school and college. Eventually, she moved to New York, where she took part in Shakespeare festivals and performed in summer stock theater productions. She pursued formal training at the University of Southern California's School of Cinema-Television and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
Sasha Alexander gained early attention for her role as Gretchen Witter in the popular television drama Dawson's Creek, appearing in 20 episodes. She later became widely recognized for her role as Caitlin "Kate" Todd, a former Secret Service agent turned NCIS Special Agent, in the first two seasons of NCIS.
