Legal Dispute Involving Bear Stearns
In 2008, the Wangs filed a complaint against Bear Stearns and several of its employees, alleging they provided misleading financial information that persuaded her husband, Roger Wang, to purchase shares in the company. The dispute arose during the turbulent period leading up to Bear Stearns’ acquisition by JPMorgan Chase & Co. at a significantly reduced price. As a result of the controversy, the Wangs declined to complete payment for the disputed stock acquisition. Vivine Wang later pursued the claims in federal court in New York, where the claims against the individual brokers were dismissed in 2014 and the remaining suit was thrown out in 2015 as a sanction after Roger Wang repeatedly failed to appear for a deposition.
