Alison Sweeney, born on September 19, 1976, is an accomplished American actress, director, author, and reality television host. She is the middle child of three siblings, with two brothers, Sten and Ryan. Sweeney began her career in entertainment at the young age of five when she appeared in a Kodak commercial. Her early roles included an appearance in a 1986 episode of Tales from the Darkside, in which she portrayed a young girl named Karen with a supernatural ability to predict impending deaths.
In 1988, she landed a role in the short-lived series Family Man. The following year, she joined the cast of Brand New Life, although the show originally aired in 1989, not 1986 as sometimes misreported. Throughout her early years in the industry, Sweeney faced challenges, particularly regarding body image. Though she wore a U.S. size 12 and was by no means obese, she was often considered larger than her television peers, which presented difficulties in an industry focused on appearance. Her struggles with self-image and career pressures are candidly discussed in her 2004 memoir, All the Days of My Life (So Far).
Sweeney gained widespread fame for her role as Sami Brady on the long-running daytime drama Days of Our Lives, a part she began playing in 1993. Her portrayal of the complex and often controversial character earned her significant acclaim. Over the years, she received four Soap Opera Digest Awards, a Daytime Emmy Award nomination, and a Fan Voted Daytime Emmy Award for her performance.
In January 2014, after 21 years on the show, she announced on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she would be stepping away from Days of Our Lives to focus on her family and other career pursuits.
