Early Life and Education

Anna Paquin was born on July 24, 1982, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, to Mary Paquin, an English teacher from New Zealand, and Brian Paquin, a Canadian high school physical education teacher. When she was four years old, her family relocated to New Zealand.

She attended Raphael House Rudolf Steiner School in Lower Hutt until age nine. As a child, she pursued a wide range of interests, including playing the viola, cello, and piano, as well as gymnastics, ballet, downhill skiing, and swimming.

After spending 1994 to 1995 at Hutt Intermediate School, she enrolled at Wellington Girls' College. Following her parents’ divorce, she moved with her mother to Los Angeles, where she completed her high school education at Windward School. In June 2000, she enrolled at Columbia University, a prestigious Ivy League institution, but eventually left to focus full-time on her acting career.

Breakthrough and Acting Career

Anna Paquin achieved early fame with her film debut in The Piano (1993), for which she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at age 11. This made her the second-youngest Oscar winner in history at the time. Her portrayal received critical acclaim and launched her into the spotlight.

Paquin continued acting in diverse film and TV roles but gained a major boost in mainstream popularity with her lead role as Sookie Stackhouse in the supernatural drama series True Blood (2008–2014). Her performance contributed significantly to the show’s success and earned her a Golden Globe Award in 2009.

In 2019, Paquin appeared in Martin Scorsese’s mob epic The Irishman, playing the adult version of Peggy Sheeran. Although her role was smaller than others, it was a key element reflecting the moral cost of violence in the film.

Net Worth and Industry Influence

Over the course of her career, Anna Paquin has worked in both independent films and major studio productions. Her estimated net worth is approximately $14 million, a reflection of her sustained success across decades in the entertainment industry.

Marriage to Stephen Moyer and Family Life

Anna Paquin married English actor Stephen Moyer, her True Blood co-star, in August 2010. The couple began dating shortly after filming the series’ pilot in 2007 and got engaged in 2009. They currently reside in Los Angeles.

Together, they are parents to fraternal twins, Charlie and Poppy, born prematurely in September 2012. Paquin is also a stepmother to two children from Moyer’s previous relationships—one from a prior marriage and a daughter from his previous relationship with journalist Lorien Haynes.

Paquin and Moyer have spoken candidly in interviews about the challenges and joys of raising a blended family, especially while balancing demanding acting careers. Despite the difficulties of raising twins, they describe the experience as fulfilling and would not trade it for anything.
