Career in Automotive Design and Television

Ant Anstead began his career in law enforcement, serving as a police officer with the Hertfordshire Constabulary. He was one of the UK's youngest armed officers and received two commendations for bravery before leaving the police force at the age of 25 to pursue his passion for vehicle building and automotive design.

From a young age, Anstead showed a keen interest in car construction and design. After transitioning out of law enforcement, he started creating custom vehicles tailored to individual client specifications. His craftsmanship earned him global recognition, and his commissioned work now includes pieces held in international museums, private collections, and showcased by car enthusiasts worldwide. Due to high demand, Anstead has reportedly maintained a waiting list of over two years for some of his automotive builds.

In 2013, Anstead was approached by Love Productions to co-host For the Love of Cars alongside actor Philip Glenister. The Channel 4 documentary series, which explored classic car restoration, was well-received and led to a second season in 2015. His television career expanded quickly; in 2015, he co-hosted BBC2's live production Building Cars Live, alongside presenters James May and Kate Humble, offering viewers a behind-the-scenes look into car manufacturing.

In 2016, Anstead returned to Channel 4 to present a ten-part series titled The World’s Most Expensive Cars, further solidifying his position as a prominent figure in automotive television. In 2017, he became more widely known through his work on the long-running series Wheeler Dealers, joining as co-host and mechanic in its 14th season, replacing Edd China.
