Cate Blanchett was born on May 14, 1969, in Ivanhoe, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia. Her mother, June, worked as a teacher and later became a property developer, while her father, Robert DeWitt Blanchett Jr., was originally from Texas. He served as a petty officer in the United States Navy before transitioning to a career in advertising. The couple met when Robert’s naval ship docked in Melbourne. Cate was just ten years old when her father passed away from a heart attack, significantly shaping her early life.

While in Egypt, Blanchett was offered a role as an extra in the Egyptian boxing film Kaboria. This experience inspired her to pursue acting more seriously, leading her to leave university and enroll at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney. Her education at NIDA laid the foundation for what would become an acclaimed acting career.
