Dwayne Allen is a former American football tight end best known for his time with the Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots in the National Football League (NFL).
Dwayne Lamont Allen was born on February 24, 1990, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He attended Terry Sanford High School, where he was a standout athlete on the football team. Playing for the Terry Sanford Bulldogs, Allen recorded 68 receptions for 1,257 yards over the course of his high school career, establishing himself as a promising tight end.
Allen played college football at Clemson University from 2008 to 2011. After redshirting his freshman year in 2008, he gradually became a key contributor to the Clemson Tigers football team. In 2009, he appeared in all 14 games, starting six of them, and finished the season with 10 receptions for 108 yards and 3 touchdowns. He continued his progression in 2010, starting all 13 games and earning second-team All-ACC honors with 33 receptions for 373 yards and one touchdown.
In 2011, Allen had a breakout season, becoming one of the nation's top tight ends. He earned consensus All-American honors and received the John Mackey Award, given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end in the country. His performance solidified his status as a top NFL prospect.
Following his collegiate success, Allen declared for the 2012 NFL Draft and was selected in the third round (64th overall) by the Indianapolis Colts. His strong college performance and physical abilities made him a valuable pick early on Day 2 of the draft. Allen played for the Colts from 2012 to 2016, contributing both as a receiver and blocker. In 2017, he was traded to the New England Patriots, where he continued his professional career until 2018.
