Early Life and Background

Jacob Harry Maguire was born on March 5, 1993, in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. Raised in a football-loving family, Harry has two brothers, Joe and Laurence Maguire, who are also professional soccer players. He developed a passion for the sport early on and joined Sheffield United’s youth academy, rapidly progressing through the ranks.

Professional Club Career

Maguire began his professional football career with Sheffield United in 2011. During his time there, he made 166 appearances and was named the club's Player of the Year for three consecutive seasons, highlighting his consistency and impact as a central defender.

In 2014, he transferred to Hull City for a reported fee of £2.5 million. While at Hull, he was briefly loaned to Wigan Athletic in 2015 to gain additional match experience. Maguire's performances caught the attention of top-tier clubs, and in 2017, he signed with Leicester City for an initial fee of £12 million, potentially rising to £17 million based on performance-related add-ons.

At Leicester, Maguire made an immediate impression. Notably, during the 2017–2018 Premier League season, he played every minute for the club and was named Leicester City’s Player of the Season for his standout performances in defense.

England National Team and 2018 FIFA World Cup

Harry Maguire’s strong club performances earned him a place on the England national team. He was selected for the squad that competed in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Maguire played a pivotal role in England's run to the semi-finals, scoring a crucial header against Sweden in the quarter-finals. His presence and composure on the ball gained him recognition on the international stage.

Manchester United and Continued Success

After impressing both domestically and internationally, Maguire transferred to Manchester United in August 2019 for a reported £80 million—a world-record transfer fee for a defender at the time. Since joining Manchester United, he has served as both a regular starter and team captain. He continues to contribute significantly in the Premier League and in European competitions as a central defender. Maguire remains an integral figure for the England national team as well.
