Broadcast Journalism Career

Helen Kapalos began her professional career in her hometown of Newcastle, New South Wales. Her initial role was with ABC Radio in 1994, after which she transitioned to positions at NEW FM and 2HD. She later joined SBS in Sydney before returning to Newcastle, where she became a well-regarded presenter and reporter for NBN Television News. Her work during this period earned her recognition as an award-winning journalist.

Roles in National Media Networks

In 2002, Kapalos entered national broadcasting by joining the Nine Network. She served as both a reporter and news presenter. By 2005, she had taken on the role of news anchor for Nightline and also appeared as a presenter for National Nine News and A Current Affair. These roles further solidified her standing as a respected figure in Australian broadcast journalism.

In 2006, Kapalos moved to Melbourne to join Network Ten. She co-anchored Ten News at Five alongside Mal Walden, initially sharing the screen with journalist Jennifer Hansen. Her tenure at the network lasted until November 2012, when her contract was not renewed amid internal program restructuring that transitioned the news format to a solo-host model.
