His parents, Marilyn Hill, a clinical psychologist, and Harry Harper, a practicing anesthesiologist, supported his early development and academic pursuits.

Education and Early Career

Harper earned his undergraduate degree from Brown University, graduating magna cum laude. He then went on to receive a J.D. from Harvard Law School, where he was also a classmate of Barack Obama. During his time at Harvard, he also obtained a Master of Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government. While at Harvard, he developed a strong interest in the arts and became involved in theater, which marked the beginning of his professional acting career.

Acting Career and Notable Roles

Hill Harper’s acting debut came in 1993 when he appeared in the Fox series Married… with Children. He also starred in the independent film The Confessions of a Dog. He gradually built his career in both independent and mainstream film and television productions.

One of Harper's most well-known roles is Dr. Sheldon Hawkes on the CBS police procedural series CSI: NY. Initially portraying a medical examiner and later a crime scene investigator, Harper appeared in the show for nine seasons. His performance on the series significantly enhanced his reputation and visibility in Hollywood.

He also starred in other notable television series and films, including City of Angels, NYPD Blue, Premium, and 1982. In 2010, he played the role of Leshem in the Syfy original movie Stonehenge Apocalypse. After CSI: NY ended, he joined the cast of the USA Network series Covert Affairs as a regular character. He later appeared in CBS's Limitless, portraying Special Agent Spelman Boyle.
