Breakthrough Role on "Greek"

Jacob Zachar is best known for his portrayal of Rusty Cartwright, a classic nerd and engineering student at the fictional Cyprus-Rhodes University (CRU), in ABC Family's hit comedy-drama television series Greek. Rusty, a socially awkward but intellectually gifted student, joins the Kappa Tau Gamma fraternity to boost his confidence and become more socially adept like his sister. Zachar's performance was widely appreciated for its authenticity and charm.

Early Life and Theatre Beginnings

Jacob Zachar was born on May 16, 1986, in Chicago, Illinois, U.S. He began his acting career with strong roots in theater, performing in local Chicago productions such as Big: The Musical, Guys and Dolls, On Golden Pond, and Les Misérables. Encouraged by supportive parents, Zachar was able to pursue his passion for acting from a young age without significant resistance at home.

Education

Jacob attended St. Francis Borgia Grammar School and later graduated from St. Patrick High School, an all-boys Catholic institution in Chicago. During his school years, he was known for his involvement in a variety of extracurricular activities in addition to academics.

Film and Television Career

Jacob made his film debut in 2006, playing the role of Earnest, a local amateur circus performer, in the independent feature Little Big Top produced by Fly High Films. Following this, his biggest television breakthrough came with his role in Greek, which first aired the following year. His other screen credits include appearances in House, Detention of the Dead, Those Who Wander, The Hive, and providing additional voices in the animated film Surf's Up.
