James White is a former American football running back best known for his tenure with the New England Patriots in the National Football League (NFL).
James White attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he played high school football for the Raiders. He was a key contributor to the 2008 St. Thomas Aquinas team that won a national championship, establishing the program as one of the top in the country.
During his time at Aquinas, White shared backfield duties with Giovani Bernard, who later played in the NFL for the Cincinnati Bengals. In his senior year, White rushed for over 1,000 yards and scored more than 20 touchdowns, earning him a spot on the All-County team. In addition to football, he was also a multi-sport athlete who lettered in baseball, showcasing his athletic versatility.
White played college football at the University of Wisconsin, where he had a productive and consistent career. Over four seasons with the Badgers, he became known for his reliability and ability to contribute both as a rusher and pass-catcher. He earned multiple All-Big Ten honors and helped lead Wisconsin to several Big Ten Championships and Rose Bowl appearances.
White was selected by the New England Patriots in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Although he began his professional career in a reserve role, he quickly became a critical part of the Patriots’ offense, especially as a third-down and receiving back.
White is perhaps best remembered for his performance in Super Bowl LI, where he scored three touchdowns, including the game-winning score in overtime—a first in Super Bowl history. He set Super Bowl records for most receptions in a game with 14 and most points scored with 20. His contributions were instrumental in the Patriots' historic comeback victory over the Atlanta Falcons.
