Early Career and Breakthrough Roles

Jesse Eisenberg is an American actor, playwright, author, and humorist. He made his television debut on the short-lived comedy-drama series Get Real. His film breakthrough came with a leading role in the comedy-drama Roger Dodger, followed by appearances in films such as the psychological thriller The Village and the drama The Emperor’s Club. He gained further recognition with roles in the comedy-drama The Squid and the Whale, the dark comedy The Living Wake, and The Education of Charlie Banks. In 2007, he received the Rising Star Award at the Vail Film Festival for his performance in The Living Wake.

Critical Acclaim and Major Film Roles

In 2009, Eisenberg starred in the coming-of-age comedy Adventureland and the horror-comedy Zombieland, both of which earned him critical acclaim. He reached a new level of recognition in 2010 with his portrayal of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in David Fincher’s The Social Network. His performance was lauded by critics and earned him nominations for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and a BAFTA Award for Best Actor. That same year, he starred in Holy Rollers, which was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.

Playwriting and Theatrical Work

In 2011, Eisenberg made his playwriting debut with the off-Broadway production Asuncion, staged at the Cherry Lane Theatre through the Rattlestick Playwrights Theater. Since then, he has written and performed in three plays in New York: Asuncion, The Revisionist, and The Spoils. The Spoils, his most recent theatrical work, was well-received and featured co-stars Michael Zegen and Kunal Nayyar.

Voice Acting and Film Highlights

Eisenberg provided the voice for Blu, the lead character in both Rio and its sequel Rio 2, portraying a rare Spix’s Macaw. He also starred in the action-comedy 30 Minutes or Less and appeared as a skilled illusionist in the ensemble heist film Now You See Me. His versatility as an actor was further demonstrated in the action-comedy American Ultra, in which he starred opposite Kristen Stewart.

In 2016, Eisenberg portrayed Lex Luthor in the DC Comics film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, sharing the screen with Gal Gadot, Ben Affleck, and Henry Cavill.
