Kim Raver is an American actress best known for her portrayal of Dr. Teddy Altman on the long-running ABC medical drama Grey’s Anatomy.

Early Life and Education

Kim Raver was born Kimberly Jayne Raver on March 15, 1969, in New York City, New York. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Boston University. Continuing her passion for acting, Raver studied theater in New York under the guidance of respected acting instructor Wynn Handman. She is fluent in both French and German, the latter of which she learned from her German-born mother at a young age.

Television Career

In addition to her well-known role on Grey’s Anatomy, Raver gained recognition for her performances as Kim Zambrano on the NBC drama Third Watch and Audrey Raines on the action series 24. These roles further established her versatility and presence in the television industry.

Early Work and Breakthrough

Before landing major television roles, Raver appeared in various commercials, including a campaign for Visa that took her to Venice. She also portrayed a character in a commercial directed by Ridley Scott for Jeep, inspired by the film Blade Runner.

Her transition to more serious theater work marked a pivotal moment in her career. She made her Broadway debut in the play Holiday (not Occasion), where she co-starred with Laura Linney and Tony Goldwyn, earning critical attention for her performance.

Personal Life

Kim Raver has been married to director and writer Manu Boyer since July 7, 2000. The couple has two children together and resides in the United States, maintaining a relatively private family life.
