Laura Vandervoort is a Canadian actress born on September 22, 1984, in Toronto, Ontario. She was raised by her Dutch father and Canadian mother. As an infant, Laura contracted meningitis, a serious illness that nearly took her life; doctors warned her parents that she might not survive. After a difficult recovery, she grew up to lead an active and athletic lifestyle. Throughout her youth, she participated in various sports including football, karate, basketball, tennis, gymnastics, and baseball.

Early Acting Career

Vandervoort developed an interest in acting at a young age, taking classes throughout her childhood. By the age of 13, she had landed background roles in Canadian television series such as Road to Avonlea and the film adaptation of Harriet the Spy. Her first speaking roles came shortly thereafter, including appearances in popular children’s horror series like Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of the Dark?.

Vandervoort’s breakout role came when she was cast as Sadie Harrison in the CTV teen drama Instant Star, a role that gained her wider recognition. The show ran from 2004 to 2008 and helped establish her as a rising actress in the Canadian entertainment industry.

In 2006, Vandervoort made her film debut in The Lookout, starring alongside Jeff Daniels, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Isla Fisher. She expanded her range with appearances in television shows like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and led in the direct-to-video sequel Into the Blue 2: The Reef.

Later, she portrayed Supergirl (Kara Zor-El) in the long-running TV series Smallville, gaining international recognition. Over the years, she has continued to accept roles in various film and television projects, steadily building her resume in both Canadian and American productions.

Vandervoort was briefly engaged to her Instant Star co-star in 2010. In 2012, she was in a relationship with actor Michael Rosenbaum, known for his portrayal of Lex Luthor in Smallville, though the relationship ended shortly thereafter. She later began dating actor and television host Oliver Trevena, and the couple are reportedly engaged.
