Wiseman earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater Arts from Boston University. During her time there, she appeared in several theatrical productions, including Nitzan Halperin’s “Sow and Weep” in 2008. She further developed her craft by attending the Drama Division at the Juilliard School, one of the most prestigious performing arts schools in the United States. While at Juilliard, she met Mary Chieffo, who would later become her co-star on "Star Trek: Discovery."

Theatrical Foundations and Stage Work

Throughout her academic and early professional career, Wiseman appeared in a range of stage productions. Some notable performances include Ariel Carson’s “I Wanted It to Have a How & I Wanted It to Have a Verb” and the role of Betsy/Lindsey in the 2013 production of "Clybourne Park." These experiences helped her build a strong theatrical foundation that would support her transition into screen acting.

Television Career and 'Star Trek: Discovery'

Mary Wiseman is best known for her role as Ensign Sylvia Tilly in the hit television series "Star Trek: Discovery," which premiered in 2017. Her portrayal of Tilly—an optimistic and ambitious Starfleet officer—earned her widespread recognition among fans and critics alike. As of 2024, she has appeared in over 40 episodes of the series, not 13 as previously stated.

In addition to her work on the television show, Wiseman reprised her role as Sylvia Tilly in the video game "Star Trek Online" in 2018, lending her voice to the character and expanding her presence within the franchise’s universe.
