Educational Background

Curry earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington, where she also focused on Exercise Science and Sports Nutrition. She expanded her academic horizons by studying at Sichuan Union University in China. Later, she pursued a journalism degree at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, further grounding her in the field of broadcast news.

Pageant Experience and Personal Life

In 1998, Curry represented Washington State in the Miss USA pageant, where she placed among the top 10 finalists. She is married to a firefighter, whom she met during her time working at KOMO-TV in Washington.

Early Career in Journalism

As a native of the Pacific Northwest, Curry began her career on the Seattle-based talk show Northwest Afternoon. There, she interviewed a wide range of celebrities including Tim Gunn, Eva Longoria, William Shatner, Brad Pitt, and Snoop Dogg. Her segments often focused on fashion, fitness, and culinary arts, frequently collaborating with renowned chefs.

She subsequently worked for multiple local news outlets, such as KOMO-TV and KIRO-TV in Washington, as well as KOMO 1000 News Radio, where she contributed to a weekly news segment. Her career path also took her to KDFW-TV in Texas, where she anchored both the morning and noon newscasts, and to KYMA-TV in Arizona for a brief period.

Transition to CNN and HLN

In 2008, Curry joined CNN's world headquarters in Atlanta, marking a significant milestone in her career. There, she became a prominent face of HLN, anchoring weekend programming and reporting on high-profile national and international events.

Notable Reporting Assignments

During her time at HLN, Curry covered several major news stories, including the ten-year anniversary of the September 11 attacks and live updates during Hurricane Irene. She also served as an international correspondent at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, where she interviewed acclaimed filmmakers such as Ang Lee, Jane Campion, and Francis Ford Coppola.

Earlier in her career at KYMA-TV, she undertook a dramatic assignment alongside U.S. Marines, flying to the bottom of the Grand Canyon to report on their efforts to assist the Havasupai tribe. As a health reporter, she also documented the perilous conditions of immigrant border crossings in Arizona.

In 2002, Curry served as a torchbearer for the Winter Olympics, a testament to her community recognition and leadership.

Humanitarian Work and Community Involvement

Outside of journalism, Curry is deeply committed to volunteerism and humanitarian causes. She has worked with organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters and World Vision. Her outreach has included international efforts in South Africa as well as local support for homeless shelters and centers for battered women.

Curry is also dedicated to mentoring students from at-risk schools, using her experiences to inspire and guide the next generation. In her reporting, she has not shied away from complex issues, including controversial stories like the protests surrounding the display of the Confederate Flag at the South Carolina State House.
