Nipsey Hussle, born Ermias Joseph Asghedom on August 15, 1985, in Los Angeles, California, was an American rapper, entrepreneur, and community activist. Raised in the Crenshaw neighborhood of South Los Angeles, he was of Eritrean and African-American descent. During his youth, he became affiliated with the Rollin 60's Neighborhood Crips, a Los Angeles-based street gang. Despite the challenges of his environment, Nipsey sought to use music as a way to instigate change and uplift his community.
Nipsey Hussle gained recognition through a series of successful mixtapes, particularly the Bullets Ain’t Got No Name series. He continued building momentum with subsequent releases such as The Marathon, The Marathon Continues, and Crenshaw. Known for his creative entrepreneurship, Hussle made headlines when industry mogul Jay-Z purchased 100 physical copies of Crenshaw for $100 each, supporting Hussle’s independent approach and grassroots hustle.

Nipsey Hussle was a father of two. He had a daughter, Emani Asghedom, from a previous relationship. In 2016, he welcomed his son, Kross Asghedom, with actress Lauren London. London also has a son, Kameron Carter, from a previous relationship with Grammy Award-winning rapper Lil Wayne.
